McCoy's 6th Birthday!

Life was a bit crazy around McCoy's birthday so we kept it really simple but did all we could to make it special. But I think that it was fun and Mac was not disappointed (well except for one thing but I will explain that later). Daddy had already moved to be closer to his new job, but he came home just to spend the weekend with us for Mac's birthday.

We blew up balloons for Mac to wake up to. We started doing this a couple of years ago and Mac made sure we didn't forget about it. So he for sure woke up bright and early because he was so excited. When he woke up he had presents waiting for him on the table from us.

Oak and I made this crown for Mac. It was so cute on him!

His breakfast request was donuts.

Getting to play angry birds on the ROKU.

Love the chocolate smear from the donuts.

It is our tradition that daddy always makes our kids' birthday cakes. We love this!
And didn't he do an awesome job on this lego cake?!

These next photos are from my iPhone so they are out of order from the previous pics.

Oak helping make Mac's birthday hat. This may have to be a new tradition.

After breakfast we actually went and got our Christmas tree but I think I will put that in one of my Christmas posts.

The fun activity Mac ended up choosing was pizza and the arcade at Putters.

Oak hit the jackpot and got like 500 tickets at once. We stood there for about five minutes waiting for them to finish coming out.

Me and my boy!

Daddy getting frustrated putting together Mac's new bike.
So we have been planning to get Mac a bike for his birthday for months. Mac was excited about it. But when we headed over to Toys R Us to get it, Mac was beyond tired and all he wanted to do was buy Legos and didn't want a bike anymore. I knew he would be getting some the next day when he opened presents from his Grandparents but he was so tired that he just was in a bad mood when we told him we only came to get a bike. Once we got in there and he got to test ride it a bit, he was a bit happier. Once we got him home he and daddy put it together he was beyond happy with it. He kept on saying things like, "Can you believe how awesome it is?" and "Don't just love that it's gold?!" It was really cute.

The next day we just had a simple little family birthday party for him at my in laws house.

And of course he got his new legos and a new nerf gun.

He was very excited for me to bring treats to his class that he could eat with everyone. Because of his tree nut allergy I don't allow him to eat any food that some anyone else brings to school as a safety precaution. So he has had his own little box of nabisco snack bags that his teacher will give him when parents bring in treats for birthdays.

Riding his bike outside for the first time.

And his six year well child check up. He has always loved the "arm squeezer"! We were sad that it was our last visit with the best pediatrician ever. We have loved her so much!

Hopefully soon I will get up a post about what Mac is like at six and hopefully he will let me take his six year pics. I tried taking them a couple of days before his birthday but he refused since he wasn't six yet. Silly boy!

To brighten your day...

I love to write down and keep track of all the funny, silly, cute and sweet things my kids do and say. I am so thankful for those moments, especially on the hard days. I couldn't help but laugh out loud as I re read some of these. It will totally make your day...PROMISE!

The kids were playing dress up and Oaklee was in her princess dress-up walking around the house bowing saying "Thank you, thank you!" over and over. At the same time McCoy was in his room trying to decide whether or not to put his spider man costume on, or his knight costume. Last minute he decides the knight costume and says, "What is a princess without her knight?!"

We were talking to the Elders and Oaklee was telling them how old she was and when her birthday was. One of the Elders got excited and said they had the same birthday so he asked Oaklee for a fist bump (or "pound" as we call them). She wouldn't do it and left him hanging so I gave him the fist bump instead. Oaklee looks at me with a mad face and says, "hey, you took my pound!!"

Oaklee had gotten hurt...
Mama: Where's your owie at?
Oak: (Whimpering and sad) My pinky toe...now I can't go 'we we we all the way home'.

My parents were needing some help with some things and my mom was being stubborn about me helping her so I was firmly scolding her about it. And McCoy breaks into the conversation saying, "Don't talk to her like that, you are not Grandma's Mom!" My mom and I were hysterical, lol!

We were walking down a large, long, empty hall at the hospital. Mac was running ahead of us and Oaklee was right next to me yelling "McCoy walk please! McCoy walk PLEASE!" Then a man was walking toward us and Oak says politely to him "Excuse me sir." as she walks by him.

McCoy wrote out his name and then put a dot at the end..."Mom, look McCoy dot com!"

I was giving McCoy my normal little pep talk as he was leaving for Preschool, "Be a good listener, follow directions, be a good friend and be a good example." Oaklee on her own adds in, "Don't say the S word at Preschool." (The S word in our house is the word stupid).

McCoy was told to eat three bites of his dinner before he could be done. He says, "If I liked it, I would just eat the whole thing!" I guess he has a point...

I said the opening prayer in sacrament meeting and when I went and sat back down Oaklee looked at me and said in such a happy voice, “I PROUD OF YOU!”

McCoy asked for a cupcake (not something we normally have in our house) and I told him he couldn't. He responds with "Are you kidding me!?!? I have been so good today!"

McCoy was looking at a book about sharks, he showed me one of the pictures and I asked if it was shark (it didn't really look like one from the distance I was at) and Mac says "it's a shark mom, It's a SHARK book." duh!

McCoy: "Mommy, I love you. When I get bigger I want to marry you." Melt me! Love that boy of mine.

At 6:20am Mommy and Daddy were in bed ASLEEP (as well as Oaklee) and McCoy comes in and says to me (in a not so whispering voice): "Let's go wake up Oaklee so we can all get up as a family!" I have to say that I was almost tempted with such an adorable request.

Daddy was snuggling with McCoy in bed one night and McCoy says, "Daddy, I love you!...I love you more than Dilly Bars." If you know how much Mac loves Dilly Bars, you would know that is ALOT!!

McCoy: Mom can you please come here.
Mom: I'm coming (in a few minutes)...
McCoy: I don't see your feet moving.

Mommy: I don't think I have enough energy to get Oaklee ready for bed.
Daddy: You can borrow some of McCoy's energy.
McCoy: NO! You can't borrow my energy, then I can't be wild!

McCoy came out of the bathroom with his hair all wet and wild and said, "I used Grandma's brush to do my hair so I could look awesome!!"

We were waiting our turn to get fingerprints done (for our adoption paperwork) at the courthouse and all these people kept walking by and saying hi and waving to my kids. McCoy says to me, "I just waved to that lady in Spanish." Lol! I saw the lady sitting next to him turn her head and laugh too.

McCoy was begging for cheese crackers for a snack and me telling him for the hundredth time that he can have fruit and his choices were a banana, peaches or pears. He finally thought he was giving in and said, "FINE, I will have applesauce!" I said that he already had applesauce for breakfast and repeated his choices. He says, "Are you telling me that applesauce isn't good for our bodies!!!"

I was singing songs in the car to keep Oaklee happy until we got home.
McCoy: "Mom, you should just drive!"
Me: "Are you saying that I shouldn't sing and drive at the same time?"
McCoy: "Yeah, it's not safe!"
Thanks for your wise words cute boy!!

McCoy told me he had eaten most of his sisters grapes at lunch time. I told him that wasn't very nice and that it doesn't make me happy that he would do that. He says, "Oh I see how it is...(then breaks into the Tangled song) Mother knows best..."

McCoy was mad and I hear him yell, "I don't like babies, I don't like dogs, I don't like people, I don't like cartoons, I don't like ANYTHING!" I really couldn't help but laugh. But I did go give him a snuggle to help him feel better. (side note: He chose all those things because we were at my brothers house who has twin babies and two dogs).

Birthday boy is...

FIVE!!

I have been thinking about the miracles and events that lead to him joining our family. Thinking about those things deeply, makes my eyes water and my heart burn with gratitude. He is such a
precious miracle, and his little spunky spirit made me a mom. He filled a very deep hole that was in my heart, one that only he could have filled. Thinking about his birth mother quite honestly brings me to tears as I will never be able to fully thank her for her heart wrenching sacrifice. I am truly grateful that she is still a part of our lives. The love we have for her runs very deep and that will never change. Adoption has been my greatest blessing and has made my life more beautiful than I could have ever imagined for myself. Heavenly Father certainly knows what he is doing! Happy Birthday BIG RED! We love you to the moon and back!

forever...

Four years ago today we took our little red head to the Temple and there he became ours FOREVER!
How grateful we are to have forever with our little ones.
